Victoria is in for a scorcher today, with total fire bans in place across much of the state as temperatures soar. Melbourne is set to hit 37°C, while other areas could see even higher numbers.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a fire weather warning for the north, south, west, and central districts, and the CFA has banned all fires in those areas. A cooler change is on the way later today, but don’t expect immediate relief—it’ll come with strong winds and an increased fire risk, especially on the dry ground.
The change is expected to sweep through the Grampians by 2 PM and Ballarat by 5 PM, bringing gusts of up to 90 km/h. There’s also the possibility of thunderstorms and dry lightning, which could spark new fires despite some rain expected to follow.
Firefighters are keeping a close eye on containment lines in the Grampians (Gariwerd) and Little Desert National Parks after weekend blazes, making sure no hot spots flare up.
The good news? Tomorrow will bring much-needed relief, with Melbourne’s temperature dropping to a cool 23°C and showers expected in the east. Stay safe and keep an eye on updates!
