Sri Lanka’s export earnings continued to grow in 2026, reaching US$13.61 billion during the first nine months of the year, a 5.04% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Figures released by Sri Lanka Customs, along with estimates from the Export Development Board (EDB), show growth in both merchandise and services exports.
Merchandise exports rose 5.35% to US$10.76 billion, while services exports increased 3.88% to US$2.85 billion between January and September.
September recorded particularly strong performance, with total exports reaching US$1.69 billion, up 17.23% year-on-year. Merchandise exports increased 21.66% to US$1.39 billion, while services exports grew 0.67% to US$306.17 million.

Food and beverage exports also rose 27.92%. Pepper exports more than doubled, increasing 165.38%, while cinnamon exports grew 68.27%, strengthening Sri Lanka’s position in international spice markets.
However, some sectors experienced declines. Tea export earnings fell 1.38%, mainly due to weaker demand from key Middle Eastern markets. Coconut-based product exports dropped 8.88%, while ornamental fish exports declined 35.15%.
The United States remained Sri Lanka’s largest export destination, accounting for more than 20% of merchandise exports. Shipments to the US increased 18.06% in September.
India strengthened its position as Sri Lanka’s second-largest export market, overtaking the United Kingdom. Exports to India rose 29.65% in September and 12.3% during the first nine months.
Turkey also recorded significant growth, with exports increasing 64.22% in September and 94.01% between January and September. Exports to China grew as well, supported by demand for activated carbon and other value-added products.
The latest figures highlight continued progress in Sri Lanka’s export sector, with growth across several key industries and expanding demand from international markets.
