More rain is on the way for Australia’s east coast

Just a week after huge downpours caused flooding in parts of New South Wales, the east coast is bracing for yet another round of wet weather.
Sydney could see up to 30mm of rain this weekend, right as 100,000 runners take to the streets for the City2Surf on Sunday. Weatherzone says around 10mm could fall during the race itself — so runners might want to pack a rain poncho along with their sneakers.
The good news? It’s not expected to be as intense as last weekend, when some parts of the Hunter Valley copped over 100mm and floodwaters tragically claimed the life of a woman near Cessnock.
Up north, parts of Queensland between Hervey Bay and Rockhampton are in the firing line for heavy falls too.
Meteorologists say the soggy weather is being driven by a northwest cloudband, which is basically warm, humid tropical air from the Indian Ocean sweeping across the country and mixing with moisture from the Coral Sea.
That means more rain for the east, cooler days inland, and plenty of cloud cover across large parts of Australia.
Victoria looks set to dodge most of it for now — though Melbourne should expect some decent rain by next Tuesday.
