Strong winds powered by icy cold fronts whipped across four states yesterday, with gusts topping 100km/h as the country shivered through a serious snap of freezing weather.
According to Weatherzone, the wild winds hit parts of South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, following a similar blast that smashed into WA on Monday, where gusts reached a massive 119km/h south of Perth.
Yesterday, the strongest winds were clocked at:
Thredbo, NSW – 119km/h in the morning and a wild 128km/h later in the afternoon
Mount Buller, VIC – 107km/h
Mount Read, TAS – 104km/h
Cape Willoughby, SA (Kangaroo Island) – 102km/h
Mount Hotham, VIC – 106km/h in the morning, then ramping up to 111km/h later
Mount William, VIC (Grampians) – 102km/h
And it wasn’t just about the numbers — it felt brutal.
At Thredbo, winds were consistently over 100km/h for more than 90 minutes, and the “feels like” temperature? A jaw-dropping -23°C. Yep, minus twenty-three.
The cold front is still rolling through, with snow expected in the alpine regions right through to Thursday, so the wintry conditions aren't over just yet.
If you're heading to the mountains, you're in for some fresh powder — but for the rest of us? Maybe it’s time to layer up, stay indoors, and enjoy the icy drama from a warm couch.
