South-East Queensland Braces for Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Risks

South-east Queensland is preparing for a wet and stormy week, with some areas forecast to receive more than two months’ worth of rain by the weekend.
Sunshine Coast is expected to experience the heaviest rainfall, with up to 250mm possible over the next week. Brisbane could receive up to 145mm, while the Gold Coast may record as much as 160mm.
Today weather presenter Carla Tooma said the Sunshine Coast had already received 110mm of rain in just eight hours on Monday.
Thursday is forecast to be the wettest day of the week, raising concerns about flash flooding, particularly around the Logan and Albert rivers.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned that river levels have been rising following several months of dry conditions. Further heavy rainfall could quickly increase the risk of flooding.
Parts of central and southern inland Queensland have also experienced significant rainfall this week. Severe thunderstorms bringing heavy rain are possible later on Tuesday, particularly across the Maranoa and Warrego districts and around Charleville.
Although no official weather warnings had been issued for Queensland at the time of reporting, residents are urged to monitor Bureau of Meteorology updates and take care on the roads.
With Australia's severe storm season underway, Queenslanders have also been advised to prepare emergency kits and be ready for rapidly changing weather conditions.
