Millions across Australia face a week of heavy rain and flooding

South-east Queensland is preparing for a wet week, with heavy rain expected across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast as easterly winds bring moisture towards the coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) forecasts weekly rainfall totals of up to 150mm in Brisbane, 170mm on the Gold Coast and 170mm on the Sunshine Coast. Brisbane is also expected to experience cooler-than-average temperatures.
There is a medium to high chance of rain each day through to the weekend, with Thursday forecast to bring the heaviest falls. Thunderstorms are also possible in Brisbane from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.
Scattered showers are expected across the south-east, while parts of inland Queensland could experience further showers and storms. Sunshine Coast Airport has already recorded more than 45mm of rain since midnight.
Coolangatta, Maroochydore, Redcliffe and Noosa Heads could receive up to 45mm of rain, while some other locations may record around 40mm.
The wet weather system is expected to remain over the region until early next week.
No weather warnings have been issued for Queensland so far. However, residents are being urged to monitor Bureau of Meteorology updates and take care on the roads, as persistent rain could increase the risk of flash flooding.
The warning comes as Queensland enters the severe storm season. BoM senior meteorologist Laura Boekel has encouraged residents to prepare emergency kits and make plans before severe weather develops.
Residents should stay informed about changing conditions and be ready to respond if warnings are issued.
