AusNewsLanka - News for Australians - Forecast accumulated rain this week.
At AusNewsLanka, we aim to keep the Australian community informed with timely updates.

Get ready to keep those umbrellas handy — rain is set to stick around for parts of eastern NSW this week, with another 100mm expected to drench already soaked areas along the coast.

Satellite images captured on Monday morning showed lingering clouds and rain over eastern NSW after a weekend of torrential downpours. In the 24 hours leading up to 9am Monday, places like the Hunter Valley and Central Coast were absolutely soaked, picking up between 100 and 150mm of rain. Some spots even saw a bit more, with Mandalong near Morisset recording 154mm, Crawford hitting 142mm, and Mount Barrington not far behind with 133mm.

The low pressure system responsible for all that weekend rain has now moved offshore, which means things should start easing up through Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning. But don't get too comfortable — another rain-making system is expected to form near the coast by midweek.

We’ll see showers and patches of rain on Tuesday across parts of eastern and southern NSW, but the real action ramps up from Wednesday. A deepening coastal trough will bring heavier rain that’s expected to hang around into the weekend, gradually spreading further up the NSW coast and even reaching southeast Queensland.

Forecasts show that some areas along the coast could cop more than 100mm of rain in just a couple of days.

The good news? This week’s rain probably won’t trigger widespread flooding. The not-so-good news? Localised flash flooding is definitely possible, especially in those low-lying coastal spots.

On top of the rain, brace yourself for some wild weather midweek. Blustery southerly winds and big surf are set to move up the NSW coast on Wednesday and Thursday before pushing into southeast Queensland on Friday.

Authorities are already warning that severe weather alerts could pop up for heavy rain, strong winds, and dangerous waves, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the latest updates if you’re in the affected areas.
