Sri Lanka plans new digital air cargo community system

Sri Lanka is moving forward with plans to introduce an Air Cargo Community System (ACCS) to make air freight operations faster, more efficient and transparent.
The initiative was previously proposed in 2023 but stalled due to a lack of coordination among key stakeholders. It has now been revived with the involvement of government agencies, airlines and industry organisations.
A multi-agency committee has been formed to assess the project. Members include Sri Lanka Customs, Airport and Aviation Services, the Board of Investment, SriLankan Airlines, the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Ministry of Finance and industry chambers.
The committee is currently examining the system’s technical, financial and operational feasibility.
A progress meeting was held on August 21 under Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku.
The proposed digital platform aims to reduce paperwork and clearance delays, improve information sharing and provide importers and exporters with a more streamlined service.
Officials say the immediate focus is on identifying weaknesses in the current air cargo process and developing practical digital solutions through closer cooperation between all relevant institutions.
