President orders faster passenger capacity expansion at Katunayake Airport

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to speed up projects aimed at expanding passenger capacity and improving facilities at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
The President has also called for the development of domestic airports across the country to meet Sri Lanka’s future aviation needs.
The instructions were given during a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat on October 27 to review the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation’s proposed 2027 Budget.
During the discussion, the President reviewed ongoing development work at Katunayake Airport and stressed the need to complete key projects without delays.
He also highlighted the importance of improving supporting infrastructure, including road networks around the airport, to ensure smoother access for passengers.
Officials discussed ways to improve the travel experience at both the international airport and regional airports, with a focus on passenger convenience and better facilities.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation and other senior government officials, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance and relevant institutions.
The proposed developments aim to strengthen Sri Lanka’s aviation infrastructure and prepare the country to handle growing passenger demand in the years ahead.
