Sydney’s in for a hot one this week, with a days-long heatwave set to crank up the temperatures.

Out west, things are really heating up—35 degrees today, climbing to a sizzling 38 tomorrow, and then a scorching 39 on Wednesday. Later in the week, temps will ease a bit, staying in the high 20s through the weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology is also predicting some light rain later in the week, but it’s not likely to cool things down too much. They’ve issued a heatwave warning for areas including metropolitan Sydney, the Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, and Southern Tablelands.

The warning highlights that severe heatwaves can be risky, especially for older folks, young kids, pregnant women, and people with health conditions. Their advice? Stay cool—find an air-conditioned spot like your home, a library, or even a shopping center. Keep the heat out by shutting windows and drawing blinds early, and if you’ve got fans or air-con, put them to work.

Some of the areas expected to feel the brunt of the heat include Batemans Bay, Penrith, Camden, and Parramatta.

Sydney’s heatwave follows similar conditions further south, where Victoria and South Australia sweated through their own scorchers last week. Melbourne hit 37 degrees over the weekend before a cool change finally brought some relief.

Stay hydrated, stay cool, and take care of yourself and others during this heatwave!
