Fuel supply concerns grow as prices could surge to $4 a litre

Australia is facing potential disruptions to fuel supply, with warnings petrol and diesel prices could climb as high as $4 per litre.
Energy Minister Chris Bowen says several oil shipments scheduled between mid-April and mid-May have been delayed or cancelled. Some have been replaced, but global supply remains under pressure.
The situation is being driven by ongoing conflict in the Middle East and reduced oil flows to Asia, which Australia relies on heavily for fuel imports.
While the government is confident shipments will continue, supply risks remain. Some countries, including Thailand and China, are limiting fuel exports to protect their own reserves.
Australia currently has about 38 days of petrol and 30 days of diesel and jet fuel in reserve.
Authorities are urging calm and advising people to avoid panic buying. Those who can work from home are encouraged to do so to reduce demand.
Officials warn the situation could worsen if global tensions continue, pushing fuel prices even higher in the coming weeks.
