Fuel stations impose 50L caps as supply shock continues

Some service stations across New South Wales have started placing limits on fuel purchases as supply pressures grow.
Regional areas were hit first, but restrictions are now appearing in city locations. On Sydney’s Northern Beaches, one station has capped purchases at 50 litres per vehicle and banned filling external containers. In the south-west town of Balranald, another outlet has set a 150-litre limit per person.
It remains unclear whether these caps are due to supply issues or an effort to prevent panic buying.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government is working to manage the situation, stressing that short-term fuel supplies remain stable. However, he warned the impact could worsen if the Middle East conflict continues.
Energy Minister Chris Bowen added that major suppliers are increasing deliveries to regional communities to ease pressure.
Authorities say contingency plans are in place, but the situation will depend heavily on global developments.
