Australia has wrapped up the Ashes with a tense five-wicket win at the SCG, sealing a dominant 4–1 series victory and farewelling Usman Khawaja from Test cricket.
Chasing 160 on the final day, Australia wobbled late before Alex Carey and Cameron Green steadied the nerves with an unbroken stand to guide the hosts home. Carey struck the winning runs as relief swept through the ground.
England had earlier pushed the match deep into day five thanks to a brilliant 154 from young batter Jacob Bethell, who was the standout of the final Test. Josh Tongue led England’s bowling fight with three wickets, but a lack of specialist spin proved costly on a turning pitch.
Khawaja, playing his final Test, made six before being dismissed. He left the field to a guard of honour, emotional applause and a farewell message painted on the turf.
The match also featured heated moments over umpiring reviews, late wickets, and several nervy run-out chances as Australia closed in on victory.
Travis Head was named player of the match after another big Test, while Mitchell Starc claimed player of the series honours following a strong all-round campaign.
The result caps a tough tour for England, who head home with questions to answer after another unsuccessful Ashes campaign in Australia.
