Sydney Airport has launched a new Fast Track service, allowing international travellers to pay $20 for access to a priority security screening queue at Terminal 1.
The optional pass is available to all departing international passengers and can be purchased online, including on the day of travel. After booking, travellers receive a QR code that grants access to the dedicated priority lane before security screening.
Airport officials say the service is designed to reduce waiting times during busy travel periods and give passengers more flexibility. However, the pass does not guarantee faster processing through security, immigration or border control.
The new option operates separately from the existing priority lanes available to eligible First Class, Business Class and frequent flyer passengers.
The Fast Track service is part of Sydney Airport’s broader upgrade program, which also includes SmartGate improvements, terminal upgrades and new digital services aimed at making travel more efficient.
The announcement has received mixed reactions online. While some travellers welcome the added convenience, others question whether the $20 fee offers enough value, particularly if large numbers of passengers purchase the pass.
The launch follows another major travel update, with Australia moving away from paper arrival cards for international passengers.
More than 450,000 travellers have already used the new digital arrival system during trials on selected Qantas flights since October 2024. The program is expected to expand to more airports before being rolled out nationwide over the next 12 to 18 months.
The Federal Government says the digital system will speed up arrivals, improve customs processing, strengthen biosecurity checks and provide a smoother travel experience for both Australians and international visitors.
