SriLankan Airlines reroutes flights amid Indonesia volcanic activity

Two SriLankan Airlines flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Sri Lanka have been rerouted due to volcanic activity in Indonesia, according to reports.
Several Middle Eastern airlines operating routes between Australia and Indonesia have also changed their flight paths.
The Anak Krakatau volcano, located between Java and Sumatra, became active on September 6. Indonesian authorities responded by suspending flights at several airports, including Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
The eruption sent volcanic ash and rock particles into the upper atmosphere. These materials can damage aircraft engines and critical control systems.
Aviation authorities have restricted flights through a large area of airspace west of the volcano, including sections south of Sri Lanka.
Airlines operating between Australia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka have adjusted their routes as a precaution. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
