30th Anniversary of the 1996 World Cup Win celebrated in Malaysia

Sri Lanka’s 1996 Cricket World Cup champions were celebrated in style at the Royal Selangor Cricket Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during a special 30th Anniversary exhibition match held on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The Sri Lanka Legends side featured iconic players including Sanath Jayasuriya, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Aravinda de Silva, Arjuna Ranatunga, Chaminda Vaas, Marvan Atapattu and Roshan Mahanama, alongside members of the original coaching and support staff.
They faced a Rest of the World XI led by Dihan Dewage in a friendly T20 encounter played in front of cricket fans and supporters celebrating Sri Lanka’s historic 1996 World Cup triumph.
Batting first, the Sri Lanka Legends posted 160/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, the Rest of the World team chased down the target in 17.5 overs, finishing on 161/2 to secure an 8-wicket victory.
The event brought together former stars, supporters and the Sri Lankan community in Malaysia to honour one of the greatest moments in Sri Lankan cricket history.
