Melbourne Airport’s $500 million drop-off zone opens this October

Melbourne Airport will open a new $500 million Pick Up and Drop Off hub in October, designed to reduce congestion and improve passenger access.
The new T123 Transport Hub will more than double the airport’s current pickup and drop-off capacity, replacing the existing roads that have struggled to handle decades of passenger growth.
Located within the T123 multi-level car park, the new facility will become the main pickup and drop-off point for passengers using Qantas, Virgin Australia and international flights. Private vehicles will also be separated from commercial traffic, while new express ramps will provide a faster connection from the Tullamarine Freeway.
The upgrade is expected to prevent major delays as passenger numbers continue to rise, with previous modelling predicting significantly longer wait times during peak periods without additional capacity.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the October opening date was chosen to help travellers adjust before the busy Christmas period.
Accessibility and operational trials are already underway to ensure the new hub and surrounding roads are ready before opening day.
The project is also a key step towards Melbourne Airport’s wider $4.5 billion international terminal expansion plans.
