Breaking news on Aus News Lanka - IPL 2025 Suspended for One Week Amid India-Pakistan Border Tensions
This is a developing story brought to you by Aus News Lanka

IPL 2025 has been suddenly put on hold for a week amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI confirmed on Friday afternoon.

In a statement, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the suspension takes “immediate effect”, and that the board would reassess the situation in the coming days.“Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues will be announced after a comprehensive assessment,” he added.

The decision was made after an emergency call between senior BCCI officials, including IPL chairman Arun Dhumal. Most franchises had reportedly raised concerns about the ongoing situation and passed along the anxieties of their players, fans, and sponsors.

“While the BCCI has full faith in the preparedness of our armed forces, we felt it was best to act in the collective interest of everyone involved,” Saikia said.

Ahead of the official announcement, all franchises were informed of the suspension, and teams have already begun disbanding. Players and support staff are heading home or to safer locations via the earliest available flights and trains.

This decision comes just a day after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was abandoned mid-innings due to security concerns. With airports shut down in that region, players had to travel by bus to Jalandhar and then catch a train to Delhi — a rare and chaotic situation for an IPL match.

So far, 58 matches have been played in the 2025 season. There are 12 group games left, plus the playoffs. But with India’s five-Test series in England starting June 20, the window to resume the IPL is extremely tight.

If things don’t improve quickly, the next possible slot could be September — although that’s also when the Asia Cup is scheduled. It’s unclear how the calendar might shift to accommodate both events.

For now, it’s a tense pause for cricket fans and players alike.
