Sydney is facing another scorching day, with some suburbs expected to reach over 40°C. The CBD is forecast to hit 35°C, while western areas like Penrith will feel even hotter.
The heat will peak early afternoon, and conditions won’t ease quickly. Even by 7pm, temperatures are expected to stay close to 30°C, setting up a very warm night.
Tomorrow will be even hotter, with the city tipped to reach 36°C in the mid-afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe heatwave warning through Saturday, with cooler conditions expected on Sunday as a change moves across NSW.
The intense heat isn’t limited to Sydney. Regions including the Hunter, Illawarra, Central and Southern Tablelands, and the Snowy Mountains will also feel the impact.
Several western and southern districts have total fire bans, and Extreme fire danger is forecast tomorrow for Greater Sydney, the Hunter and Illawarra.
Residents are urged to stay cool by closing blinds early, limiting indoor heat, and using fans or air-conditioning where possible.
