Adelaide braces for biggest rainfall event of the year weekend

Adelaide is set to receive its heaviest rainfall of 2026 as a slow-moving weather system brings much needed rain to the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects up to 20mm of rain today and another 15mm tomorrow, with lighter showers continuing into next week. Some forecasts suggest total rainfall could reach 40mm.
The rain comes after months of unusually dry conditions across Adelaide and nearby areas. January was especially harsh, with almost no rainfall recorded in parts of the city and Adelaide Hills.
Weather experts say the current system is moving slowly due to a high-pressure block over the Tasman Sea, allowing rain to remain over the region for longer.
The wet weather is expected to continue until Wednesday, offering relief after one of Adelaide’s driest starts to a year in recent memory.
