University of Melbourne Tops Australia in Global Rankings Once Again

The University of Melbourne has retained its crown as Australia’s top university, climbing two spots to 37th in the world in the latest Times Higher Education rankings.
The University of Sydney also impressed, jumping from 61st to 53rd globally. Rankings are based on factors like teaching quality, research strength, and international outlook. Melbourne earned a standout 99.8 score for industry impact, reflecting its strong ties with innovation and industry partnerships.
Other notable Australian movers include:
UTS (University of Technology Sydney): Up to 145th from 154th despite recent cost-cutting.
Macquarie University: Up 12 places to 166th.
University of Adelaide: Re-entered the list at 176th after being unranked last year.
Meanwhile, University of Queensland and University of Western Australia both slipped slightly.
Globally, Oxford University and MIT held the top two spots, while ETH Zurich remains the highest-ranked university outside the UK and US.
Australia’s strong showing highlights its growing global reputation for education, research, and innovation.
