Twin Weather Systems Deliver Powerful Winds Across WA

Western Australia’s far south-west has just copped the first hit in a “powerful one-two punch” of cold fronts — and there’s more wild weather on the way.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the first front swept through the region on Sunday afternoon, bringing strong winds and scattered rain. While Perth got off relatively lightly with winds around 50 km/h, other areas were hit much harder — gusts reached up to 119 km/h in some parts.
Rainfall totals were pretty varied too.
Most areas from Geraldton to Esperance saw around 10–25mm, but the Eastern Hills south of Perth got a heavier soak, with some spots recording up to 40mm.
Now for the second punch:
Another cold front rolled in early this morning. As of 5am (WA time), it was just off the coast and set to bring winds of 90 to 100 km/h to the south-west — though thankfully, it’s expected to ease overnight.
You can also expect another short burst of rain, but the good news is that no major weather warnings are in place for this one — at least for now.
BOM meteorologist Angus Hines said forecasters are keeping a close eye on the massive swells that might develop from the strong winds.
But this system isn’t staying in WA.
By tomorrow, it’s forecast to push across the country, bringing gusty winds and showers to parts of South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania.
So if you're in the south-east, don’t pack away that umbrella just yet — your turn is coming soon.
