A powerful weather system is bringing widespread rain, strong winds and the risk of flash flooding across large parts of Australia this week, with South Australia expected to be among the hardest-hit regions.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe weather warnings for parts of South Australia, including the Eyre Peninsula and surrounding districts, where heavy rainfall could lead to localised flooding. Some areas may receive up to 60mm of rain within a short period.
Forecasters say the slow-moving system will gradually track east, spreading wet and windy conditions into Victoria, Tasmania and parts of New South Wales over the coming days.
Western Australia is also experiencing severe weather, with coastal communities facing damaging wind gusts of up to 100km/h, heavy rain and the risk of fallen trees, power outages and minor property damage.
Despite the unsettled conditions, unusually warm temperatures continue across parts of eastern Australia. Sydney is on track to record a historic run of June days above 20°C, potentially setting a new record for the month.
Residents in affected areas are being urged to stay up to date with weather warnings and avoid travelling through floodwaters.
