Large parts of Australia are in for a wet and steamy week, with heavy rain forecast to soak nearly half the country.
Weather analysts say a broad low-pressure system stretching across the nation is drawing in deep tropical moisture. According to Weatherzone, this setup is likely to drive widespread rain across northern Australia for several days.
The heaviest falls are expected in western parts of the Kimberley in WA and Queensland’s North Tropical Coast, where more than 200mm of rain could fall this week. Many areas between them may see 100mm or more. Authorities are warning of possible flooding, road closures and community cut-offs across Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
While the north gets drenched, the south is bracing for intense heat.
Sydney is forecast to hit 35°C on Wednesday, with temperatures above 30°C again this weekend.
Melbourne is set for 34°C today and 36°C tomorrow, before a brief cool change and another warm-up later in the week.
Adelaide faces a run of hot days above 30°C, peaking at 37°C today, with only a short break midweek.
The Bureau of Meteorology says even cooler days in the south will remain warm, with temperatures lingering in the high 20s.
Australians are urged to stay updated with forecasts and warnings as flood risks rise in the north and heat stress increases in the south.
