As Aussies get ready to head to the polls tomorrow for the federal election, it’s a good idea to check the weather before stepping out — whether you're grabbing a democracy sausage or working at a polling station.
Now, because voting is compulsory here, a bit of rain or chill won’t stop the crowds — but knowing whether to pack an umbrella or throw on a jacket never hurts.
Here’s what you can expect around the country, according to the Bureau of Meteorology:
Brisbane is in for a mostly cloudy day with just a slight chance of an afternoon shower. Temps should hit a comfy top of 24°C — might be wise to bring a brolly just in case.
Sydney voters, especially those in the western suburbs, could wake up to some early morning fog. The rest of the day looks partly cloudy with light winds and a max of 23°C. Pretty nice voting weather!
Canberra is starting things off cold — we’re talking 1°C at dawn, with a frosty and dry morning. It’ll warm up to a pleasant 20°C, but if you’re voting early, rug up and maybe grab a hot coffee on the way.
Hobart will also see a chilly start at around 6°C, with some fog and frost early in the day. Things should clear up as the day goes on, but definitely bring some layers.
Perth, you’ve had some lovely autumn weather lately, but that’s changing fast. A cold front is sweeping through, dropping temps from today’s 26°C to just 22°C tomorrow — and there’s a 90% chance of rain. Expect chilly, strong winds too. Maybe pick a polling place with shelter.
NSW in general looks pretty dry, with just a slight chance of showers in some areas, including Sydney. The southern parts of the state will be sunny and bright.
In Adelaide, the weather’s looking fantastic — mostly clear skies, lots of sun, light to moderate northerly winds, and a very comfortable top of 25°C. Ideal weather for voting and snagging a snag!
Melbourne voters might wake up to some early fog and frost, especially out east, but it’ll clear up and warm to around 22°C. All in all, a pretty nice day for heading to the booths.
And finally, Darwin will be doing its usual thing — dry, mostly sunny, and warm with a top of 33°C. Perfect for voting early and spending the rest of the day outdoors.
So, wherever you are, don’t forget your ID, grab a coffee if it’s cold, and enjoy your election day — rain, frost or shine!
