Virgin Plane Collides with Vehicle at Melbourne Airport

A Virgin Australia plane has been left with a sizeable gash after it collided with a towing vehicle at Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport overnight.

The incident happened during a routine ground transfer, as the aircraft was being towed to a maintenance hangar.

According to a Virgin Australia spokesperson, the plane appears to have become disconnected from the tug mid-transfer — and that’s when the tug vehicle slammed into the side of the aircraft.

Footage from the scene shows a visible dent and tear along the fuselage, with workers seen patching it up on the tarmac.

Thankfully, there were no passengers on board at the time, and no injuries have been reported.

Virgin says the aircraft was already scheduled for maintenance and there’ll be no impact on flights today. So if you’re flying with them this week — no need to worry, everything’s running as planned.
