Thousands of Australians trapped in the middle of rising tensions between Israel and Iran are calling on the government for help to get out—fast.
According to Foreign Minister Penny Wong, around 1,500 Australians in Iran and 1,200 in Israel have reached out for assistance. That’s more than triple the number reported earlier this week.
The government says it's actively working on a range of evacuation plans, but Wong has also made a public plea to both nations to step back and de-escalate the violence, which continues to claim lives daily.
For now, Australians in either country are being urged to register their details on the Smartraveller website and follow any local emergency alerts.
"The advice is clear—take shelter and listen closely to local warnings," Wong said.
The conflict is also having a ripple effect across the region. Smartraveller has updated its travel advice for Qatar, now warning Aussies to “exercise a high degree of caution” due to the broader instability in the Middle East.
The advisory notes potential airspace closures, flight cancellations, and even protests or demonstrations that could erupt with little warning.
“Local security situations can change quickly. Avoid all protests and demonstrations,” it reads.
This isn’t just a local conflict anymore—it's affecting the wider region, and Australians are being urged to stay alert, stay safe, and prepare for possible disruption.
