A man’s in hot water after he was found wandering around on the tarmac at Perth Airport earlier this week.
The 33-year-old, who’s from Perth, had apparently been hanging around in the bushland near the airport before somehow making his way onto the airfield itself on Tuesday night. Airline staff spotted him and quickly stepped in.
He was arrested by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and later pleaded guilty in court to trespassing on Commonwealth land. If convicted, he could be fined up to $3130. He’s due back in court for sentencing on May 25.
Detective Acting Inspector Aden Jama from the AFP warned that being on the tarmac without permission isn’t just illegal — it’s also seriously dangerous.
“Anyone who trespasses on Commonwealth land or enters a secure area without authorisation can expect to be prosecuted,” he said.
The AFP is in charge of aviation security at nine major airports around the country. If you ever see anything suspicious at an airport, you're encouraged to call Airport Watch on 131 237.
