Fresh severe wind warnings have been issued across the state today, with damaging gusts set to whip through Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle and surrounding areas.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, strong westerly winds are developing over southeastern and central parts of the state, and they’re expected to pick up quickly through the afternoon.
Here’s who’s in the firing line:
Sydney metro – gusts up to 90km/h
Newcastle – winds hitting 90km/h from this afternoon
Illawarra and South Coast ranges, plus Central and Southern Tablelands – up to 100km/h
ACT, Snowy Mountains and South West Slopes (above 1300m) – also facing damaging winds
Other affected areas include Wollongong, Nowra, Kiama, Ulladulla, Sydney Airport, Campbelltown, Goulburn, Bowral, Katoomba and Maitland.
The NSW State Emergency Service is urging residents to tie down loose items, move cars away from trees, and secure anything that could become airborne. Flying furniture or falling branches are no joke in these gusts.
The silver lining?
The worst of the winds should ease by tomorrow morning, so it’s just about getting through the next 24 hours safely.
If you're out and about this afternoon or evening, keep an eye on weather alerts and drive carefully — this system has already caused plenty of chaos across the east coast this week.
