South-eastern Australia is set for a blast of winter-like weather this week, with cold, wet and windy conditions forecast across multiple states.
A mix of weather systems will bring rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, hail and even snow to parts of Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.
Light showers will begin tomorrow, with conditions expected to intensify through Thursday and Friday.
In Melbourne, Friday is forecast to be the coldest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching just 16°C and up to 15mm of rain.
Snow is also possible in alpine areas, including Thredbo and Falls Creek.
Sydney can expect showers and a possible storm on Thursday, followed by cooler conditions with a top of 21°C on Friday.
The worst weather is likely around Canberra, with storms on Thursday and a cold, wet Friday bringing temperatures down to 14°C and up to 20mm of rain.
In Hobart, temperatures will drop to 15–16°C, with lighter rainfall expected compared to the mainland.
Meanwhile, Adelaide will largely avoid the worst of the system, with mild temperatures and only light rain forecast.
Authorities are advising people to prepare for rapidly changing conditions as the cold front moves through.
