Cyclone Narelle to bring heavy rain, winds and flood risk to Perth

Tropical Cyclone Narelle has reformed off north-west Western Australia and is rapidly intensifying as it tracks along the coast.
The system is currently a category 3 cyclone, with wind gusts already reaching up to 200km/h near the Pilbara. Forecasters warn it could strengthen further to category 4 or even category 5 in the coming days.
Strong winds are already being recorded across coastal areas, including Karratha, Roebourne and Port Hedland. Authorities say damaging winds could increase, raising the risk of structural damage.
Weather experts warn Narelle is a large and powerful system, with destructive winds extending well beyond its centre.
The cyclone’s exact path remains uncertain. Some models suggest it could hit Exmouth as a severe system, while others indicate a more southern track near Denham.
Regardless of where it makes landfall, heavy rain is expected across the state. Perth could receive 50–100mm of rain between Friday and Saturday.
By the time it reaches the south-west, the system is expected to weaken. However, intense rainfall may still trigger flash flooding and river rises.
A flood watch is in place from the North West Cape down to Perth. Several events across the city have already been cancelled or moved indoors as a precaution.
Authorities are urging residents to stay updated and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
