A first look at December’s long-range forecast is in — and one Australian capital is shaping up for a soggy Christmas Day. AccuWeather has released its early predictions for each capital city, giving a snapshot of what to expect as summer kicks off.
New South Wales – Sydney
December will bring plenty of sunshine with the odd cloudy day or shower.
Temperatures range from 17°C to 35°C.
Christmas Day: Dry, mostly sunny, 20°C–24°C.
Queensland – Brisbane
A hot month ahead with highs near 32°C and lows around 18°C. Expect sunshine mixed with summer storms mid-month and late month.
Christmas Day: Hot and rainy, 23°C–29°C.
Victoria – Melbourne
Warm but mostly cloudy. Temperatures vary widely from 11°C to 35°C, with storms likely mid-month.
Christmas Day: Cloudy with sunny breaks, top of 22°C.
ACT – Canberra
A warm, comfortable December with 9°C–33°C. Mostly sun and cloud with some showers — including on the big day.
Christmas Day: Rainy but warm, high of 25°C.
South Australia – Adelaide
A mixed month with cloudy skies, patchy rain and some fog. Temps range from 9°C to 34°C.
Christmas Day: Partly cloudy, around 24°C.
Western Australia – Perth
A classic warm WA summer. Highs near 30°C with mostly sunny days and brief cloudy spells.
Christmas Day: Sunny and mild, 17°C–25°C.
Northern Territory – Darwin
Hot and humid with 24°C–36°C. Rain and storms will be common, with cloud lingering even on dry days.
Christmas Day: One of the few sunny days, reaching 35°C.
Tasmania – Hobart
A cooler start to summer with sunshine and light rain. Highs around 27°C and lows down to 8°C.
Christmas Day: Cool and cloudy, top of 18°C.
