AusNewsLanka - News for Australians - NSW drivers to get vehicle registration cost relief
At AusNewsLanka, we aim to keep the Australian community informed with timely updates.

Drivers across New South Wales will receive a new cost-of-living break from Tuesday, with registration fees reduced for privately owned vehicles.

Car owners will save $100 on registration, while motorbike owners will receive an $80 discount. About 360,000 privately owned light vehicles are expected to be registered in September.

The discount will be applied automatically when motorists register or renew their vehicles. For six-month renewals, the saving will be $50 for cars and $40 for motorbikes.

The measure does not cover business vehicles, trailers, caravans, heavy vehicles, plant vehicles or conditionally registered vehicles. Vehicles already receiving another registration concession, rebate or discount are also excluded.

The NSW Government says the measure is designed to help households manage rising transport and living costs.

The relief comes alongside other measures, including a 12-month freeze on Opal fares, a $50 weekly toll cap and the removal of toll administration fees.

The latest support comes as Australian motorists face higher fuel prices and persistent inflation. Petrol prices have recently risen above $2 a litre, while inflation reached 3.5 per cent, increasing concerns about further interest rate rises.
