At AusNewsLanka, we aim to keep the Australian community informed with timely updates.

Melbourne Airport will launch new pick-up and drop-off areas on October 6, marking its biggest road network changes since the airport opened in 1970.

The current zones will close, with drivers required to use new facilities inside the undercover parking area.

Motorists travelling to the terminals will need to leave the Tullamarine Freeway earlier at Exit 19 and follow the elevated roadway to reach the new zones.

Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the changes would create space for the planned expansion of the international terminal.

More than 100,000 people use Melbourne Airport each day. Passenger numbers are expected to reach 75 million annually by 2047.

A free 60-minute waiting area will remain available off Mercer Drive.

The new facilities will separate private and commercial vehicles. They will also allow passengers to wait for rides under cover and close to toilet facilities.

Airport staff will be stationed throughout the area to help drivers and passengers adjust to the new arrangements.
