General Manager of Group Security, Kevin Zuccato, said thieves are taking advantage of the busy gifting period. Crime Stoppers Victoria CEO Stella Smith added that Christmas always brings a spike in quick, opportunistic thefts.

To help protect deliveries, Australia Post is encouraging customers to use secure options:

• Free 24/7 parcel lockers

• AusPost app to track parcels or request a safe drop spot

• Collect from a Post Office for maximum security

Zuccato reminded customers not to wait until a parcel goes missing — once it’s stolen, it becomes a police matter.

Smith also urged people to report suspicious behaviour and share any footage to help prevent more thefts.

Australia Post delivered a record 103 million parcels last Christmas, and even higher numbers are expected this year. Simple steps now can help shoppers avoid disappointment.
