AusNewsLanka - News for Australians - Australians wake to widespread myGov account access issues
At AusNewsLanka, we aim to keep the Australian community informed with timely updates.

Several Australians have been temporarily locked out of their myGov accounts after unusual sign-in activity triggered security protections.

Services Australia said the lockouts do not indicate that myGov has been hacked. Instead, automated security systems have detected repeated or suspicious login attempts.

The agency said scammers may be using stolen email addresses and passwords from previous data breaches in credential-stuffing attacks.

Affected users may receive a message saying their sign-in details were entered incorrectly too many times and that their account has been temporarily locked.

To restore access, users should follow the official recovery process provided by Services Australia.

Authorities are also warning people to watch for phishing scams. Users should access myGov through the official app or by manually entering my.gov.au into their browser.

myGov will not send an email or text containing a direct sign-in link asking users to log in.

Once access is restored, users are encouraged to review their security settings and consider using stronger options such as Digital ID or passkeys.

Services Australia also recommends disabling email addresses or mobile numbers as usernames if those details may have been exposed in another data breach.
