Australia Post Reveals Christmas Sending Deadlines for 2026
Australia Post has announced its 2026 Christmas sending deadlines, urging Australians to post gifts and parcels early to avoid delays during the busy festive season.
Millions of parcels are expected to move through the postal network during November and December, with international shipments requiring significantly earlier cut-off dates than domestic deliveries.
Domestic Christmas Deadlines
For metropolitan areas, the recommended final dates are:
Parcel Post: December 21 for interstate deliveries and December 22 within the same state
Express Post: December 23
Letters and cards: December 18 interstate and December 21 within the same state
Customers sending items to or from Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania and regional or remote areas should allow additional time.
International Sending Deadlines
International cut-off dates vary depending on the service:
Economy Air: November 24 to December 4
International Standard: December 1 to December 11
International Express: December 4 to December 15
Australia Post General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Gary Starr said the Christmas period is the organisation’s busiest time of the year.
Australia Post delivered around 111 million parcels during November and December 2025, with volumes expected to increase this year.
Starr said major shopping events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday are likely to encourage Australians to begin their Christmas shopping earlier.
Australia Post has been preparing for the seasonal rush for months and has recruited thousands of temporary workers to support the network.
The organisation is also still recruiting for seasonal positions, including truck drivers, forklift operators, parcel sorters, freight handlers and van drivers.
Customers can use the Australia Post app to track deliveries, check estimated arrival times and receive updates about possible service disruptions.
With the Christmas rush approaching, Australia Post is urging Australians to check the deadlines, shop early and send early.
