Australia Post confirms key delivery changes ahead of Christmas rush

Australia Post is changing its Parcel Collect address system from September 1, making it easier for customers to send online purchases to Post Offices and Parcel Lockers.
Under the new format, customers will use a short identifying number instead of a traditional street address. The number can be entered alongside “Parcel Collect” when completing an online checkout.
The change only affects customers using Parcel Collect services. Regular home deliveries and PO Box addresses will not be affected. Australia Post said the transition will happen gradually, so some customers may continue seeing their existing address details for a short period.
The move comes as Australia Post prepares to significantly expand its Parcel Locker network over the next five years. More than two million Australians are already registered, with about 5,000 collection points nationwide, including more than 1,500 Parcel Lockers.
Parcel Locker usage increased by 20 per cent over the past year, while parcel returns rose 36 per cent. Australia Post also expanded its free Parcel Locker network by more than 60 per cent during the same period.
The changes reflect the rapid growth of online shopping, with Australians sending fewer letters while parcel volumes continue to rise.
Australia Post and StarTrack have also begun recruiting more than 3,500 seasonal workers ahead of Christmas, including drivers, forklift operators and parcel sorters. More than 900 positions are available in NSW.
Australia Post handled a record 111 million parcels during the 2025 Christmas period, with volumes expected to rise further this year.
Customers are being advised to check their saved delivery details in the Australia Post app and remain alert for scams during the transition.
