Akalanka Peiris Breaks Three Sri Lankan Swimming Records in Australia

Sri Lankan swimmer Akalanka Peiris has produced an outstanding series of performances at the Australian Nationals, setting three new Sri Lankan national records in two days.
On Thursday, October 1, Peiris broke the national record in the Men’s 50m Backstroke twice in the same day.
He first clocked 24.45 seconds in the heats, improving his own previous record of 24.52 seconds.
He then went even faster in the final, recording 24.35 seconds to set the national record for a second time that day.
The previous record of 24.52 seconds had also been set by Peiris two years ago.
The following day, October 2, Peiris continued his record-breaking run in the 100m Individual Medley.
He finished in 55.55 seconds, lowering the previous Sri Lankan record of 55.79 seconds.
The Australian Nationals is a highly competitive meet featuring leading Australian swimmers and international athletes. It also serves as an important qualifying event for Australia’s World Championships team.
Based in Melbourne, Peiris trains in Australia while continuing to represent Sri Lanka on the international stage.
His latest performances further highlight the progress of Sri Lankan swimming at the international level.
